In this Heroes vs Hordes review, we will see if this game lives up to its advertising that states that it’s better than the other games of its type!
Heroes vs Hordes: Survivor is an addictive, free to play, action, survival game. You choose a Hero and try to survive through multiple waves of enemies. As you can see in the images on this page, the game is a lot like Vampire Survivors.
The object of the game is to fight through each chapter and beat the boss at the end. Before starting a chapter, you can equip and upgrade your hero, so it has a better chance at surviving.
Every time your hero levels up, a screen pops up where you can choose a weapon or a tome to upgrade and assist you in eliminating the hordes of enemies. When you match a maxed weapon with its corresponding tome, you gain access to an evolved weapon!
I played mostly with the Knight hero for this content.

Heroes vs Hordes Review: The Good
- Heroes vs Hordes is Free to play. No need to spend real money to enjoy the game.
- Easy to play.
- The game loads fast.
- Many different things to collect. For example, heroes, weapons, tomes and enemies.
- Several different heroes to use. They must be unlocked, though.
- You can level up your heroes to unlock abilities.
- You can buy/unlock talents that will apply to all your heroes. For example, movement speed.
- As you progress in the game, you unlock new features. For example, Guild access.
- The Tomes show what weapon they correspond to.
- You can pause the game.
- You can close the game and resume play later.
- From time to time, a Mini Boss will appear and reward you if you eliminate it. I recently encountered a Mini Boss that jumps on you and shakes the screen, very original and scary!
- You can see info for each mob and upgrade the amount of damage you will do to them.
- The damage stats for the weapons you choose can be seen during battle from the pause screen or after the battle.
- There are individual and clan events you can play.
The Bad
- Many enemies look alike, they could use a bit more personality.
- Only 1–2 heroes are available at the beginning, and it’s not so easy to unlock more.
- Most of the weapons are not original, I’ve seen them before in games of this type.
- As a colorblind person, it was hard to see some enemies against the background.
- Non-animated popup ads are shown randomly, and can only be closed by clicking the small x in the top corner.
Heroes vs Hordes Review – Quick Tips
- Use the ground obstacles such as boulders to give you some protection on the tougher waves.
- Get a good maxed Weapon quickly, to keep you alive.
- The Crossbow weapon evolution (Crosswing) is very strong, and so is the Duplicator tome.
- I recommend getting armor and HP regeneration over movement speed. This way you can become a slow tank.
- Test different weapon combinations to see what works best for you.
- Analyze your weapon damage stats after battle to see what is best for you in the future.
- Don’t upgrade all your equipment, only what you will use for a good while.
- Try to wear equipment from the same set, so you can have a set ability.
- Complete the easy daily quests at least.
- Play in the Events for free loot.

How can Heroes vs Hordes: Survivor be improved?
- The map/ground graphics are okay, but could be improved.
- More original weapons could be added to the game.
- Access to new heroes could be a bit easier and less grindy.
- The weapons could show what tomes they correspond to.
- Don’t spam popup ads, and make them closable by clicking anywhere off the ad.
The Verdict: 7/10
I was intrigued by this game because it advertised itself as being “better than the rest”, and because it had a very high rating of 4.8. Also, because I enjoy playing this type of survival game genre. So I decided to see what all the hype was about, and write a Heroes vs Hordes review.
I have been playing Heroes vs Hordes for many hours. I just gained access to and joined a guild, so I’m curious to see how the game develops from here. As you probably know, being in a good guild usually makes a big difference.
I like collecting and am motivated to collect all the monsters, weapons and talents. There are many different heroes to play, but how quickly I can unlock them is still to be seen.
So far, Heroes vs Hordes: Survivor earns a 7 out of 10 from me. This rating might go up depending on how quickly I can access new heroes, new features, and other factors.
