In this Survivor.io review, we will determine how good this game really is! You will discover it’s good aspects, the bad ones, and even suggestions on how this game could improve.
Survivor.io is a free to play, role playing, action, survival game. That is to say, you select a survivor/hero and try to survive through multiple waves of enemies. As you can see in the images on this page, the game is a lot like Vampire Survivors.
The object of the game is to fight through each chapter and then beat the boss at the end. Before starting a chapter or battle, you can equip your survivor and a pet, so that it has a better chance at surviving.
Every time your survivor levels up, the action pauses, and a screen pops up with 3 options. When this happens, you can choose a weapon or a buff to upgrade and assist you. When you match a maxed weapon with its corresponding buff, you gain access to an even stronger weapon!
I played with the starting hero for this content, because it’s hard to get more characters!

Survivor.io Review: The Good
- Survivor.io is free to play. So there’s no need to spend real money to enjoy the game.
- It is easy to play by just moving a finger on your phone’s screen.
- The game loads fast.
- You can pause the game.
- Survivor.io has less popup ads than other mobile games.
- From time to time, a mini boss will appear and reward you if eliminated.
- The damage stats for the weapons you choose can be seen during battle from the pause screen or after the battle.
- There are many things to do. For example, daily challenges, events, main chapters, trials, etc…
- Several different things to collect, for example pets, weapons and gear.
- You can level up your survivors, equipment and even your pets.
- From time to time, the developers add new features to the game, such as Clans, Friends List and Local Coop.
The Bad
- It’s easy to lose track of where your survivor/hero is, specially during boss fights when it matters the most. Also, at times you can’t even tell where the boss is.
- As a colorblind person, the color of the “Better” and “Excellent” items looks the same.
- I find other games of this genre easier to control.
- At the present time, only 1 hero is available at the beginning, and it’s not easy to unlock more.
- There is no official PC version available yet, only emulated.
- The game is a bit too loud, even on the lowest volume on my Android phone.
Survivor.io Review – Quick Tips
- Get a good maxed Weapon quickly, to keep you alive. Then get another one maxed out.
- The Bat weapon and its evolution(Lucille) are very strong, and so is the reduce CD buff.
- To kill bosses faster I like the Lightning Emitter weapon and its evolution, Supercell.
- I recommend getting the pickup range buff. This way you can level up much faster.
- I like the HP regen buff, so that you don’t have to depend on the meat pickups to heal yourself.
- Test different weapon combinations to see what works best for you in Survivor.io.
- Analyze your weapon damage stats after battle to see what is best for you in the future.
- Don’t upgrade all your equipment, only the best that you will use for a good while.
- Save up and buy the x10 packs/chests in the shop.
- Complete the easy daily quests at least.
- Also, play in the Events for free loot.
- Join a clan for extra rewards.
Survivor.io Review – Screenshots
How can Survivor.io be improved?
- More original weapons could be added to the game.
- Access to new heroes could be a bit easier and less grindy.
- The weapons could show what buffs they correspond to.
- Take into account colorblind people when you design the game. Avoid using similar colors on different item rarities.
- The map/ground graphics are okay, but could be improved.
- Add ground obstacles such as boulders to give some protection on the tougher waves.
- Although probably difficult implement, a non-local cooperative mode for Survivor.io would be awesome!
The Verdict: 7.5/10
I found and started playing this game some time ago because it was like Vampire Survivors. I recently came back to it to write content for this Survivor.io review.
This is a great casual game to pick up if you have some free time. You can quickly jump into a game due to its fast loading time.
The competition in this genre is fierce and I think this game needs more gameplay variety. I say this because the events I played were all very similar.
All things considered, Survivor.io is a fun, free game with no visible bugs, and receives a 7.5 out of 10 rating from me.
I appreciate you so much for reading up to here!
